St. Paddy's Day
here on St. Croix brings out a little bit of the Irish
in all of the islanders. The Annual St.
Patrick's Day Parade is one of the best parades
on-island -- with wildly decorated floats, marching
bands, honor guard, twirling majorettes and much more.
A'Irish Heart ---
Crucian Soul' theme lets everyone be Irish for the day.
On St. Croix, the crowds are always ready
to take an active part in the festivities.
The people who come to watch the parade
are adorned with colorful beads and decked out in
green, some even painting themselves green and
wearing leprechaun ears and green hats!
Some visitors to the island come down
every year at this time just to attend the parade and
partake in the post-parade celebrations.
Throughout the day, festivities abound at
the local pubs and beachside bars with entertainment
and special activities.
This tradition
may seem a little strange for the Caribbean, but the
St. Paddy's Day events have been going on through
thick and thin for over 37 years. It is truly a
day of celebration and camaraderie, with the islanders
coming together to dance to the music and party in the
streets. The people of St. Croix do love to
party!
